Keeping Livebearers

Livebearers are all very hardy and are considered to be a good fish for beginners. Livebearing aquarium fish belong to several fish families. What they all have in common is that they do not lay eggs. They give birth to live offspring. There are some very beautiful types of livebearers.

The eggs cells of female livebearers are fertilized inside her body, the male has a modified anal fin called the Gonopodium to accomplish internal fertilization. .

Care:
Most live bearers are schooling fish, and so you should keep more than one of each species. It is also very important to have at least three females to each male. A large densely planted tank with open areas for swimming is ideal. Livebearers will accept all types of food, reuire some veggie diet also
.
Communities:
Most livebearers can be kept without any problems with other active schooling fish. Stay away from the larger Cichlids as they will pounce on them.

Breeding:
There is no special skill or requirements needed to breed Livebearers, just have a male and some females and nature will do the rest. Because the babies are born live and quite large, many will survive and grow right in a community tank if sufficient hiding places r there or remove the parents.
